Kitty corner from Hyde Park. Walking distance to CBD. Rooms were modern, clean and roomy and came with a kitchenette. Room could use more light. Street noisy and elevator quirky and slow.

Great things: The front desk staff were very helpful and friendly with great knowledge of the surrounding area including good restaurants and areas to visit etc. The hotel itself was clean and modern and fairly central.
Opportunities for development: The one and only tiny lift was the slowest ever, if I didn't have a room on the top floor I would have walked up the fire exits as it would have been quicker. The water hammer or pipe noises in the walls were fairly disruptive during the night - this was told to the staff and they were going to have a look at it so hopefully that will be fixed soon. The king size bed was two singles pushed together with a top over it, you could still feel the break in the middle which was a little uncomfortable if you rolled into it. Dont expect a grand entrance, just neat and petite.

I got a room with kitchenette for about NZ$500 for three nights, so less than NZ$ 170 per night, and right next to Hyde Park - so hard to grumble. The room was very clean (as it was last time I stayed) and the bed was comfortable. The only drawback is that the rooms do tend to be very dark and the lighting is not good, and add that to the sombre greens they use as a reto look and, well, you have a recipe for a slightly depressing stay!
I would stay again but if I had to choose to pay $50 more for a bright, fresh hotel instead I would do that.

Very comfortable room, great location, view across to Hyde Park, windows that open, wifi available in room at a charge, quiet enough mid week, last minute rate was excellent.

I first discovered this gem through reviews on [website]. I have stayed there each time I am in Sydney. It is great. The first time in December 08 I had a corner room - huge with leather seat, big bathroom etc. Thought I would have the same on my last visit but not so but still the bathroom was good,the room very clean and comfortable, little noise from the streest butthe cleaners made a bit of noise in the morning - lucky I didn't want a sleep in. This hotel is so convenient, so well priced, I tell anyone I meet where I stay and recommend the place. I am thinking of going to Sydney with my wife for a few days of leisure later this year as I have only been there by myself on business beforen - Stellar Hotel is the only place I would stay. Can't recommend highly enough. Do yourself a favour and try it.
